WHAT'S COMING UP?

FROM OUR TEMPLE PRESIDENT, WALTER LEVY
 
As you may have heard, Temple Custodian, Robert Phillipe's sister, Clarine Pierre, was killed in the earthquake in Haiti, leaving behind three young children, who are now with their Grandmother (Robert
and Clarine's mother).
The Beth Am Temple Board approved my proposal for setting up a mechanism to provide direct aid to Clarine Pierre's children.  Although it is too early to know the exact nature of the childrens' needs at this time, we are collecting donations that will be sent to them.  The probable mechanism will be via direct deposits into a local bank account that we will create in trust for the children, as soon as it can be arranged in Haiti.
Anyone wishing to make donations should make a check, payable to Beth Am Temple, with the memo "Children of Clarine Pierre" on the face of the check.  All donations received will be deposited in a separate checking account.

Sponsor a Month of our Social Action Hunger Project - ALMOST SOLD OUT!
Beth Am has an on-going commitment to provide 100 cans of tuna per month to the Jewish Community Food Cupboard and the funds donated will go to purchase the tuna. Please consider sponsoring either an entire month, 1/3 or 2/3 of a month by contributing $30, $60 or $90. This is a wonderful mitzvah to perform in honor of someone's birthday or special occasion. Checks should be made out to Beth Am Temple and indicate the month(s) you are sponsoring. You can also continue to donate cans of tuna or other non-perishable food items by bringing them to the Temple and placing them in the Coat Room.

 

WONDERFUL CAKES!
Beth Am Temple now has an arrangement with a bakery to provide cakes, muffins, cookies and brownies to Temple members. These items are prepared fresh and then frozen and shipped directly to us for you to pick up. The loaf cakes feed at least 16 people (in 4 oz. slices) and are $20.00 each. They can be frozen and used all year long. We have chocolate chip, banana nut, cranbury/walnut, lemon, poppy and many more. Muffins are also available in various flavors and we have brownies and  blondies. Call Sandy at the Temple office for details at 845-735-5858.

 

When you "buy" a gift card you are actually just trading $100 in the form of a check or credit card payment for a $100 supermarket gift card. The store pays the Temple 5%. Members do not pay any fee of any kind and the cards have the full value and can be used like any other card at the supermarkets that participate. They do not expire. Most people start out purchasing $100 and come back to purchase $300 - $500 because it is so convenient and costs nothing extra, but our Temple makes money. It truly is a simple way to help us earn extra cash. If you haven't tried it yet, please do, we think you will find it a convenient way to help out and to shop. Thank you.
