COMMITTEE INFORMATION

We have many active committees at Beth Am. Below is a listing of the committees, their upcoming activities, meeting times and chairpeople. Please feel free to join us at any time and get involved. We would love to have you!

ADULT EDUCATION
The Adult Education Committee, in cooperation with the Rabbi, promotes educational activities, and plans courses, programs, and events to increase knowledge of Jewish religion, culture and heritage.

Our Genesis class meets Monday nights at 8:00 PM.

BEAUTIFICATION
The Beautification Committee was formed as an offshoot of the Building and Grounds Committee to oversee and implement any design choices necessary to enhance our temple setting. Our immediate goal is the completion of our Sanctuary Redesign Plan. With Phase 1 (Bima redesign and reconstruction) completed, we are now working on Phase 2 (Sanctuary Seating). Phase 3 will include new wall finishes and lighting.

Beautification meets on the second Monday of each month at 7:30 PM. Please join us.

BUDGET AND FINANCE
The Budget and Finance Committee monitors the financial condition of the temple by maintaining a detailed accounting of income and expenses. This committee is also responsible for preparation of an annual budget.

Budget and Finance meets on the third Sunday of each month at 10:00 AM.

BUILDING AND GROUNDS
The Building and Grounds Committee evaluates, recommends and facilitates all work relating to the maintenance, upkeep and improvements to our building and property, including oversight of the Temple custodian and seasonal contractors. Our objectives for 2009 are the creation of a Temple Maintenance Manual and the implementation of Energy Conservation projects.

Building and Grounds meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 8:00 PM.

CEMETERY
The Cemetery Committee is responsible for the management of the Temple cemetery. They approve all plans for monuments and landscaping.

The Cemetery Committee meets on an ‘as needs’ basis.

FUND RAISING
The Fund Raising Committee organizes and produces a variety of events throughout the year which are both profitable to the Temple and enjoyable to our members.

The Fundraising Committee meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM.

MEMBERSHIP
The Membership Committee actively seeks to grow our congregation by disseminating information about our Temple community to prospective new members. It strives to help new and present members alike become an integral part of our Temple family. It also develops programs for the retention of existing members.

The Membership Committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:15 PM.

PUBLICITY AND ADVERTISING
The Publicity and Advertising Committee is responsible for the publication of a regular Temple Bulletin, for arranging coverage of Temple events by local news media and for the design and publication of advertising. This is done in cooperation with other committees, clergy and the Board of Governance as appropriate.

The Publicity Committee meets on an ‘as needs’ basis.

RELIGIOUS SCHOOL
The Religious School Committee takes responsibility for the education of our children. With the advice and cooperation of the Rabbi and the Principal it establishes all regulations necessary for the governing of the school. It helps formulate educational goals and evaluates the progress of the school. Additionally, it reviews the school’s budget and the hiring of personnel.

The Religious School Committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 8:00 PM.

RITUAL
The Ritual Committee, in cooperation with the Rabbi and the Cantor, establishes, reviews, and facilitates the rituals and observances of all Temple worship services, Festivals and Holy Days. It is responsible for maintaining the Torah scrolls, crowns, mantles and other ritual items. The Ritual Committee may discuss and decide matters pertaining to the Temple Sanctuary and liturgical materials, including prayer books. Additionally, where possible, the committee promotes practices to enhance the values of Jewish living extending into the home.

The Ritual Committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 8:00 PM.

SOCIAL ACTION
The Social Action Committee heightens awareness and acts upon opportunities to help others in the community through projects and donations. Social Action provides the motivation for congregants to volunteer their time and services in order to address important human needs.

TECHNOLOGY
The Technology Committee maintains and repairs the Temple’s computers and local area network. It selects and installs software and trains the staff in its use. It maintains the Temple’s website and email system. Additionally, it reviews all requests of purchase for hardware and software to be used at the Temple.

The Technology Committee meets on an ‘as needed’ basis.

YOUTH COMMITTEE
The Youth Committee promotes activities for young people to enhance their knowledge of Jewish tradition, their respect for Jewish religion and their participation in activities with other Jewish youth. The Youth Committee oversees the activities of the youth groups and hires any professional staff.

The Youth Committee meets on an ‘as need’ basis.
